2017 TOST - Going south and stop at Mingjian Tea District

#2017TOST Taking very early High Speed Train and Heading south to Sun-moon Lake, then to Alishan for hands on experience in making high mountain Oolong teas.

This is a busy day... We first visit MingJian Nantou, the current biggest tea producing district. Our good friend, Mr. Hsieh and his mom waiting for us at their Eco-farming tea garden.  They also share with our members a good experiment of planting Turmeric plants together with their young tea bushes...actually helps the Eco-farming...

Mr. Ben-Ting Lin owns a tea factory here in MingJian, probably one of few that equipped with Steam-Fire fixation process.  He guides our members around the factory and also offer his teas for our members to cup and taste.  Mr. Lin produce unique Formosa Sencha with Taiwan's special cultivars, such as Four Season Spring, Jin Suang, Yin Siang... and he told us that actually Formosa Sencha: Ruby 18 is a winner for domestic tea lovers.

We have our quick lunch at the famous Sun Moon Lake... but unfortunately we cannot spend much time to enjoy the view... Taiwan Bear (our good friend, Mr. Liang) will lead us to visit those Old Bushes Assam tea plants in Yuchih area. (*During Japan's colonizing, Taiwan has planted many Assam in this area... until 1960... slowly covered in the woods...)

Our next stop is TRES Yuchi Branch, where our TOST technical Instructor, Master Steve Huang is currently heading this facility.  Our members have plenty time to visit the exhibition hall that collects so many great information about Taiwan tea plants.  And Steve will accompany to get on Alishan for our full course of hands on making Alishan Jade Oolong at Wang Ting Tea Garden.
